Heart of the Matter

What really motivates you and me to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, house strangers, clothe the naked, take care of the sick, and visit prisoners?  We know that it says in scripture that if we do this for the least of these, then we do it for Jesus (Matthew 25: 34-40).  As Christians we obey God’s teachings, but is that what really moves us to give?

At the ROC we have seen that if we don’t exhibit God’s love for our neighbors who visit ROC Central each day, they sense that our giving is simply a charitable act.  An act that’s appreciated, but nothing more.  If our hearts don’t surround our struggling friends with unconditional, absolute love, we are seen only as an agency with hand-outs.  We must truly care for each and every one of our neighbors in need: care about their struggles, understand their needs, and assist in guiding them through the maze of barriers that are blocking their pathway to stability and peace.  They know immediately if our love is true.  They can see it in our eyes, hear it in our voices, sense it in our hearts.  When they know our love is real, their hearts open wide, and God begins to move their lives.

On January 18th, Renew Our Community hosted a community event that addressed the “Heart of the Matter.  His love conquers all”.  If you missed it, please take a few minutes to listen and watch this heart-felt music video that was written and produced specifically for this January event.  It’s five minutes of inspiration that is truly the “Heart of the Matter”.

Blessings,
